(West Salem, WI – June 28, 2010) Can anybody beat Steve Carlson? Not on Saturday night.
Carlson won his fourth Kwik Trip NASCAR Late Model feature of the season after taking the lead from Jeff Baker late in the race.
Carlson started mid-pack, but when a caution came out on lap eight the front four cars went to the inside and Carlson moved to the outside restarting fourth. It didn’t take long for Carlson to reach race leader Baker. The two raced side by side for five laps before Carlson finally took over the lead. Carlson held onto the lead through a second caution that brought Todd Korish to the second position. Korish challenged Carlson for the lead, but wasn’t able to get around him.
“I had about three laps for him (Carlson) after the restart. That’s about all I had,” said Korish, who finished second.
After those three laps Carlson pulled away and never looked back. Carlson now has six top-five and seven top-10 finishes.
Baker fell back to third, where he finished, after being passed by Carlson, but was disqualified after failing post-race inspection.
Jerrod Loging edged out Greg Scheck at the line to win the North Country Contractors Sportsmen feature. The two were side-by-side coming out of turn four. Scheck had a hard charge toward the start/finish line but came up short. Branden Berg finished close behind in third followed by Rick Schermerhorn and Matt Inglett.
Henry Vian won a caution filled United Auto Supply Thunderstox feature. Adam Gallagher brought out the first caution after spinning in turn four. The field scattered, but the drivers were able to get back under control. Vian then had to work around lap traffic to capture the checkered flag. Ray Hardy followed in second and Dustin Bagstad in third. Adam Moore took home a win in the Thunderstox novelty Lights Out race.
John Olson beat Chad Rosendahl to the line, winning the R.A.Y.S. feature. Olson was also the fastest qualifier in the division.
