Powell takes NASCAR Late
Model feature win! |
July 7,
2001; West Salem, WI - With
nine races remaining in the regular season, Brad Powell moved his Ford Taurus into first
place in the Midwest Fuels Late Model division Saturday night. Powell qualified second to
Andy Burgess.
Starting on the outside of row four, Powell patiently worked his way to
second. On lap twelve, Ken Hutchens spun and hit the wall coming out of turn four bringing
out the caution. On the restart, Mike Belling had Brad Powell in his rearview mirror.
Powell was finally able to move around Mike Belling with eight to go and finished his
night in victory lane.
Mark Lamoreaux, who was the point leader going into racing action Saturday night,
continued his struggle with bad luck. He began the night by arriving late to the track due
to an electrical outage in his hometown of Bloomington, MN. That wasn't the only late
arrival for Lamoreaux. According to track officials, Lamoreaux was late in lining up for
the feature and therefore had to start the race from the rear. He ended up finishing
sixteenth on the night.
Rick Shisler proved to be a strong contender for the Ray Hutson Chevrolet Sportsman
Division winning the feature from the pole. An accident with twelve laps to go left Blake
Horstman and Morris Proctor facing each other in turn one and finishing the night
in the pits.
Dan Secor worked his way through the United Auto Thunderstocks to add another feature
victory to his season. The night finished with Rick Schermerhorn and Ryan Larson winning
features in the Features Sports Bar Hornet division.
