Johnny Sauter at 'Fest!
By John McKarns

October 3, 2001;  West Salem, WI -  ASA champion Johnny Sauter announced today he will compete in the RE/MAX Challenge Series Oktoberfest 200 this Sunday afternoon at the LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway.

Sauter won 10 ASA events in 20 starts this year.  He will drive for Richard Childress in the Busch Grand National Series next season and will compete in an ARCA race at the Lowes Motor Speedway Thursday.

Members of the Sauter family have competed many times over the years at LaCrosse.  Johnny's father Jim and brothers Jay and Tim have all raced in past Oktoberfest events, but a Sauter has never won this event.

Jim Sauter was the ARTGO Challenge Series champion in 1981 and 1982 and later raced in the Winston Cup Series.

Johnny's brother Jimmy is also entered in another late model division this weekend.  The 32nd Annual Oktoberfest event is expected to attract over 500 race cars and trucks in 15 divisions.  Racing starts this Thursday night and continues through Sunday afternoon.

The RE/MAX Series qualifies Saturday afternoon and their 200-lap event will be run Sunday afternoon.
