A lap three yellow for a four-car accident coming out of turn four
stretched out the field in the feature, as Kirchner, Tim
Hagen and Holzhausen led the field of 25. The incident happened as cars checked up near
the front of the field, and ended with Tony Bagstad, Curt Eckleberg, Charlie Menard and
Bill Niles in the wall at the start of the frontstretch.
On the restart, Holzhausen quickly dispatched Hagen to move into second, and Todd Korish
followed by a lap later. As Hagen faded throught the field, Powell began to charge, moving
to fourth behind Korish on lap five, and taking third from the 32 car on lap seven.
By this point, Kirchner and Holzhausen had an eight-car lead on Powell. Powell slowly
reeled in the leaders, as Holzhausen
looked for a way around Kirchner. he saw his chance on lap 13, as he set up on the outside
of Kirchner going into turn three. The two cars came across the stripe side by side, and
Holzhausen had taken the top spot by the time they went into turn two.
Powell took advantage of the lead battle to close right on Holzhausen's bumper, and
on lap 15, he took over second.
Powell looked to the inside twice over the final ten laps, but each time Holzhausen was
able to slam the door. Kirchner
finished third, followed by Korish, Kevin Nuttleman and points leader Mark Lamoreaux. J.
Herbst, Rick Wateski, Mike Belling and Hagen rounded out the top ten.
Troy Goodenough won the semi, while Todd Olver and Jim Hagel won heat races. Brad Powell
and Isaak Owen won the Bud Dashes, while qualifying for the NASCAR Late Models was washed
out by a brief early evening shower.
Chand Wehling played his cards right early in the Ray Hutson Chevrolet Sportman division
feature, as he stayed behind leader Sam Andersen, and the pair pulled out to a
straightaway lead on the rest of the pack by mid race. Unfortunately, from there on on,
Andersen didn't give him the opportunity to get by, and Wehling had to settle for second
at the checkered. Anderson took his first feature win of the season, while Wehling, Morris
Proctor, Jimmy Gilster and Rick Shisler rounded out the top five.
Corey Jankowski was quick timer for the Sportsman before the rains came, averaging 86.707
MPH for his qualifying run. Todd Lockington and David Steensen won heat races, while Sam
Andersen and Blake Horstman won the Bud Dashes.
Troy Anderson pulled out to the lead early in the Thunderstox feature, and held a 2-car
advantage for most of the 15 laps as he took the win. Scott Voss finished second, as
rookies took the top spots. Joey Johnson, Jason Schaller and Mark Challet rounded out the
top five.
Jason Stark advanced to the feature wby winning the semi, while John Olson won the Bud
Dash. Heat winners were Troy Anderson, Joey Johnson, Al Bartels and Scott Voss.
The Hornets were back in action again, with two big feature races, and in the opener, it
was Clint Mohn taking the opening
win, and Rick Schermerhorn winning the second feature. Heat winners for the Hornets were
Jeff Martin, Troy Opsahl and Rick Placek.
This Saturday night, the action heats up as the Midwest Fuels NASCAR Late Models and Ray
Hutson Chevrolet Sportsman drivers continue to battle for regional points in the
NASCAR Weekly Racing and Short Track Series. The Thunderstox will also be in action, with
qualifying begining at 5:30 pm and the first race at 7:30 pm.
