5 is the Lucky Number for Nuttleman!
By Philip Jahnke

August 3, 2002;  West Salem, WI - Solid racing and a near cataclysmic crash helped three time track champion Kevin Nuttleman win his fifth feature of the season at the United Auto Supply night at the races. At the start of lap two a couple of cars started to get sideways coming into turn two but all the cars hung on avoiding a major crash that would have wrecked havoc on the Kwik Trip Late Model drivers.

Photo Highlights

Nuttleman who started in the fifth position avoided the near crash by skirting his way to a safe line and avoiding the near pile up. Nuttleman said that if he didn't tuck down to the inner part of the track he would have been in trouble and a crash would have insued.

Luckily for him and the rest of the drivers the crash was avoided. Nuttleman credits his win to a hard working crew and a great running car. Nuttleman took the lead from second place finisher Kurt Thicke after four laps and held the lead till the checkered flag. Thicke who started on the pole didn't let up the whole race and let Nuttlema!
n take the win unanswered. There was a hard fought battle four the fourth and fifth positions with Steve Holzhausen taking the fourth spot and Rick Wateski taking fifth. Rookie Blake Horstman from Rockland took a well fought third place.

Solid racing was the key for Rick Steinhoff's victory in the United Auto Supply Grand National Sportsman feature. Steinhoff led the entire race with a commanding lead over second place finisher Dan Gilster. The leaders were not the only ones racing with precision, third place Corey Jankowski weaved his way up to the third place position over fourth place finisher Jimmy Gilster. The two were battling it out bumper to bumper until Jankowski took the third position on the last lap. To round out the top five with Scott Beckler taking a well fought fifth place position. The racers drove hard all night and put on a great show for the fans at the LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway.

Pink was all the only color the drivers could see in the United Auto Supply Thunderstox 15. Joe Rinartz, the driver of the pink 66 car, drove a hard race to come up with the checkered flag. Rinartz led the whole race with solid driving and a great car. Minneapolis's own Mary Schill won a hard fought second place finish over jason Schaller. Matt Inglett and Al Bartels would finish out the top five with hard racing and a cool demeanor.

Saturday night featured the always entertaining and crowd favorite, trailer race of destruction. The track after the race looked like a tornado had come down upon a lake resort with boats, campers, and boat trailers scattered al over the track. Dan Erdman from Holmen won over the crowd and took home the trailer race of destruction trophy by smashing everything in his way and wrecking havoc everywhere he went.
