Powell had winning combination at LaCrosse!
By Philip Jahnke

August 24, 2002;  West Salem, WI - A hot night at the LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway featured Brad Powell the Victor in the A-1 Glass NASCAR LateModel feature race Saturday night.  Powell was in a dog fight for the lead with Paul Proksch who were swapping positions  for the lead all night.  Proksch started on the pole and ended up taking third when a caution with two laps to go brought the pack together and made for an exciting finish.  Powell had engine problems last week but he and his team worked out the bugs for another win at LaCrosse.

Photo Highlights

Last weeks feature winner and fast qualifier Steve Holzhausen worked his way through the pack taking the number two position way from Paul Proksch on the last lap.  Rick Wateski who is third in the points standings took fourth and points leader Kevin Nuttleman took fifth.  The crash involved Todd Korish and J. Herbst who weren't injured  and their cars  weren't too damaged.

Scott Beckler won an easy victory in the A-1 Glass Grand National Sportsman feature.  Beckler Started on the pole and held onto his lead the whole race despite a restart on lap with five to go.  Beckler ended out the night with the fastest car and the checkered flag.  First might have been an easy win but the rest of the field was tight, hard, great sportsman racing till the end.

The whole pack from the front to the back were battling it out and jockeying for positions.  Rick Shisler the second place finisher raced hard and got a break when Corey Jankowski and Jimmy Gilster got into each other in turn four with five to go.  The crash and ensuing yellow opened the field wide open   for the rest of the pack to clinch a higher position on the track, which included three wide racing.  Rick Shisler took the second place spot with Tom Thill in third, Adam Degenhardt in fourth, and Jeff Baker took Fifth.

The LaCrosse fairgrounds speedway was once again rocked by the metal mangling mayhem of the United Auto Supply Thunderstox division.   The cars were loud and the action was hard.  It was what the track announcer Chuck Timm liked to call it a "slobbernocker". The race was full of crashes, chills and spills with Jason Bolster winning the checkered flag over Jason Schaller.   Matt Inglett took third, Jake Arneson took fourth, and Troy Anderson took fifth.
