Rain Shortens LaCrosse Show!
By David Morgan

June 6, 2003;  West Salem, WI -  Rain seven laps into the NASCAR Late Model feature race red flagged the event, and despite a delay in which two races were run on the quarter mile, heavier showers forced officials at the La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway to cancel the remainder of the night's activities.

"We felt we would have a good chance to get the big track dried, and fiinish the program," Race Director Jeff Garbers said. "Once the heavier rains came, we lost that window of opportunity."

The rains didnt come soon enough for a few drivers, as three separate cautions in the first seven laps of the Kwik Trip NASCAR Late Model feature sent several cars to the pits, most notably early race leader Brent Kirchner, who slid through turn one on lap seven, and rode the wall for 150 feet before coming to a rest in turn two. Tony Bagstad and Charlie Menard had tangled one lap earlier, triggering a seven car incident in turn three.

In events completed before the rains came, Jon Inglett won the NASCAR qualifying heat, while the Bud Dash wins went to Brad Powell and Jon Barrette. Brad Powell was fast timer, clocking a 20.239-second lap around the speedway for an average speed of 97.016 MPH.

Rick Shisler was fast timer for the Ray Hutson Chevy Sportsman drivers, clocking a 22.703 second lap for an average speed of 86.486 MPH. Randy Hass won the non-qualifying heat, qualifying heats went to Rob Curran and Branden Berg, and the twin Bud Dashes went to Larry Bolster, Jr. and Trent Boettcher.

In United Auto Supply Thunderstox action, Ron Heller won the B-Main, as he held off a late charge by Matt Inglett for the win. Inglett tried for the win, and the two cars touched in turn three, with Heller sliding across the line for the win.

Mary Schill won the Bud Dash, and heat wins went to Tony Leis, John Hendrickson, Kris Budhaupt and Jamie Dummer. Kevin Burr won the novelty event, Double Spin, Second over the Line Wins.
