August 14, 2004;  West Salem, WI - Mike Belling held off a serious charge from season point leader Charlie Menard to capture his first Kwik Trip NASCAR Late Model division feature win of the season in the Bob Johnson Lucricants/Midwest Fuels 30 at La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway Saturday night.

Photo Highlights Mike Belling captured his first Kwik Trip NASCAR Late Model main victory since the 2002 racing season breaking a two year drought at the LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway. Tim Steinhoff (#36) was the man to catch in the Ray Hutson Chevrolet NASCAR Grand National division as he topped the main event.

Belling started the feature in seventh place, and worked his way through the field, taking full advantage of several cautions that slowed the field four times. On lap seven, Shawn Pfaff and J. Herbst spun in turn two, allowing Belling to close the gap on leader Adam Degenhardt. On lap 14, Belling was able to move his car to the outside of Degenhardt in turn four, making the pass for the lead down the frontstretch.

After taking the lead, Belling was able to open a sizable gap on the field, until a caution brought out by a four car accident in turn two slowed for the final time. On the restart, Charlie Menard who was in fourth place, immediately took third from Degenhardt, then was trapped behind Mark Lamoreaux for several laps. Menard stayed in third for the next five laps, only able to move into second on the final lap, when it was too late to catch Belling. With his second place finish, Menard was able to extend his point lead slightly over Steve Holzhausen, who finished fourth. Lamoreaux finished thrird, with Blake Horstman taking fifth. Degenhardt, the pole sitter and early race leader took seventh.

Horstman continued his strong qualifying, with a time of 20.099 seconds, 97.691 MPH. Horstman leads all Kwik Trip Late Model drivers with five fast times, one more than point leader Menard. Andy Niles held off a late race charge from Todd Oliver to take the B-Feature. Lorin Kurth and Ken Hutchens took qualifying heat race wins, while Belling and Herbst took the Bud Dashes.

Rick Steinhoff withstood a furious late race charge from Dan Linnehan to take his first Ray Hutson Chevrolet Sportsman feature of the season. Steinhoff started in fifth and quickly moved his way to the front. With two laps to go, Linnehan moved from sixth to second in one corner, as the field checked up while Linnehan moved past them on the outside. Steinhoff was able to hold off Linnehan by about a car length to take the checkered flag. Jes Tenner was third, Chand Wehling fourth and Tony Leis fifth.

Linnehan continues to pace the Ray Hutson Chevrolet Sportsman in qualifying, with his fourth consecutive fast time. Linnehan posted a time of 22.603 seconds, 86.869 MPH. Rob Curran held off Paul Mahlum, Jr. to pick up the B-Feature win. Sportsman heat race wins went to Marv DeGarmo and Todd Lockington. Tom Thill and Larry Bolster, Jr. took the Bud Dash checkered flags.

Joey Johnson continuted the string of first time season feature winners, as he took the checkers in the United Auto Supply Thunderstox feature race. Johnson started in fifth and was able to take the lead early and hold off the field to take the win.
Matt Inglett took the Thunderstox B-Feature. Starting on the pole, Inglett was able to lead every lap and win by about a quarter lap. Heat race winners in the division were Charles Vian, Wayne Smith, Jason Schaller and Kevin Burr, while Jason Stark won the Bud Dash.
