August 21, 2004;  West Salem, WI - Steve Holzhausen passed Shawn Pfaff with only five laps remaining in the Budweiser 25 Saturday night to capture his third Kwik Trip Late Model feature win of the season at La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway. Holzhausen started the race in eighth, but quickly moved forward, moving into third place by lap 17. On the next lap, Holzhausen moved around J. Herbst in second, and after that it was only a matter of time until he would take the lead. Pfaff led the first 19 laps, building a comfortable margin after starting on the outside pole, but Holzhausen clearly had the dominant car in a race that was caution free. Pfaff was able to hold off Herbst in a tight race for second.

Former track champion Holzhausen still is in the season championship chase, after gaining a few points on leader Charlie Menard, who finished fourth in the feature. However, with just two nights of racing left in the season, Holzhausen trails Menard by 56 poitns and will need two good finishes along with some bad luck from Menard to take the season title.

Menard was quickest in qualifying, posting the fast time of 20.163 seconds, 97.381 MPH. It was Menard's fifth fast time of the season, tying him with Blake Horstman. Qualifying heat race wins in the division went to Todd Korish and Tom McClintock, while Tony Bagstad and Adam Degenhardt picked up wins in the Bud Dash races. Jim Hagel picked up his first feature checkered flag of the season, winning the B-Feature.

Chris Skrede picked up his first feature win in the Ray Hutson Chevrolet Sportman division. Skrede started on the outside poll, and was able to pass leader Nick Schroeder coming out of turn two to take the lead for good. Skrede is in third place in the season standings, and still has a good chance at the title. Schroeder finished second, followed by Tom Thill, Jeff Baker and Daniel Linnehan.

Linnehan continues to dominate the field in Sportsman qualifying, posting his fifth consecutive fast time with a 22.719 second lap. Jake Arneson picked up the B-Feature win in the division, holding off Rob Curran in a tight race to the line. John Olson and Larry Bolster, Jr. picked up qualifying wins, and Rick Shisler and Jimmy Gilster took the Bud Dashes.

Aaron Vinson put the finishing touches on a great night, winning the Budweiser 15 feature race in the United Auto Supply Thunderstox division. After winning an earlier heat race, Vinson backed that up by dominating the field in the feature. Vinson started on the pole and quickly showed the best car, winning by several car lengths. Lavern Berg was second, followed by Tim Steinhoff, Brad Warthan and Jason Starks. Jason Bolster won the Thunderstox B-Feature, Warthan the Bud Dash. Heat race winners were Vinson, Wayne Smith, Joey Johnson and Jason Chandler.

The Features Sports Bar and Grill Hornets were back in action as well, with over 60 cars turning out to race. Winning Hornet feature races were Ron Amann, John Clements and Heath Weissenberger. Heat race wins in the division went to Weissenberger, Amann, Jeff Stumlin and Larry Burroughs. The Hornets will be back in action on September 11, as part of the 12th annual Eve of Destruction.
