September 4, 2004;  West Salem, WI - Charlie Menard put a huge exclamation point on his first La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway track championship by taking the checkered flag in the Kwik Trip NASCAR Late Model division Lakeview Furniture 100 Lap Saturday night. Menard, who wrapped up the championship the previous week, wouldn't be denied on this night. He started 15th in the feature, and worked quickly to move his car to the front of the pack. Menard took the lead for the first time on lap 33, lost it briefly, the regained it on lap 58 for good. Menard led 64 of the 100 laps, had to hold off two previous track champions for the win, teammate Kevin Nuttleman and Steve Holzhausen. The victoty was Menard's sixth of the season.

Another pair or teammates, Paul Proksch and Blake Horstman rounded out the top five. The race featured nine caution flags for 31 laps, although yellow flag laps do not count towards the 100 lap distance. With his third place in the feature, Holzhausen wrapped up his second place in the season standings, with Nuttleman third.

Another Menard teammate, Andy Burgess topped the field in qualifying, posting a lap of 20.062 seconds, 97.872 MPH. Burgess rebounded from a crash in the feature to post an eighth place finish. Last Chance heat race winners in the division were Adam Degenhardt and Jim Hagel.

Chris Skrede took the Lakeview Furniture 15 checkered flag in the Ray Hutson Chevrolet Sportman division, beating John Olson and Larry Bolster, Jr. to the line. Dan Linnehan and Jeff Baker rounded out the top five. Tom Thill picked up the win in the Sportsman B-Feature. Heat race winners in the division were Josh Millis and Dan Erdman. Bill Miller and Jimmy Gilster picked up the Bud Dash wins. For the seventh consecutive week, Linnehan posted the fast time in qualifying, with a lap of 22.777 seconds, 86.205 MPH.

Andy Barney won the United Auto Supply Thunderstox feature, beating Corey Barney to the line. Wayne Smith, Jamie Dummer and Emily Sue Steck completed the top five. Greg Lindvig was the B-Feature winner, Jason Chandler took the Bud Dash. Thunderstox heat race winners were Dummer, Cory Barney, Jeff Rentz and Andy Barney.

The La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway regular season is now complete. However, lots of racing action is still yet to happen, as the annual Oktoberfest Race Weekend will be held October 7-10. 15 divisions will compete over the course of the weekend. Make plans now to come and enjoy the great racing.
