Holzhausen Takes First
Feature Win of Season In LaCrosse!

2004; West Salem, WI - Steve Holzhausen started on the
outside pole of the Kwik Trip Late Model feature. It didn’t take him long to show the
rest of the competition how strong his car was going to be.
Holzhausen grabbed the lead going into turn one of the Pischke Motors 25,
and led every lap to claim his first feature win of the season. He led the first ten laps
fairly comfortably, until J. Herbst mounted a strong charge coming out of turn four. The
two battled door to door for the next five laps, until a caution came out to slow the
field.
Jim Hagel, Todd Korish and Mike Belling made contact in turn two, bringing out the caution
flag. Korish was able to continue and salvage a 19th place finish, however Belling and
Hagel were forced to the pits with damage sustained in the contact.
After the caution, Holzhausen was able to build a small lead which turned out to be
enough. Herbst, who finished second, was unable to mount the same kind of charge after the
caution flag. Eight time track champion Kevin Nuttleman finished third, followed by rookie
Sam Andersen and Blake Horstman.
Season point leader Andy Burgess, followed up his feature win from last week with fast
time in qualifying this week. Burgess turned a lap of 97.852 MPH. Horstman, who set the
track record earlier this year, was second. Burgess’ teammate Charlie Menard was
third, Nuttleman fourth and Shawn Pfaff was fifth fastest.
Tim Hagen and Bill Niles won qualifying heat races, while Adam Degenhardt and Steve
Holzhausen won Bud Dash races. The B-Feature winner was Todd Korish, who held off a strong
late race surge by Troy Goodenough.
In the Ray Hutson Chevrolet Sportsman Division, Jordan Hess captured his first feature
win. He held on by a slim margin to take the victory over Chand Wehling. Wehling mounted a
late charge on the outside, but wasn’t able to catch Hess, who started from the pole
position. Rick Shisler was third, followed by Scott Beckler and Tom Thill.
Rick Steinhoff was fast timer in Sportsman qualifying for the second consecutive week.
Steinhoff turned a lap of 22.558 seconds, 87.042 MPH. Scott Beckler was second, followed
by Daniel Linnehan, Trent Boettcher and Rick Shisler. Mark Challet won the non-qualifying
heat race. Nicholas Schroeder and Dan Erdman were the qualifying heat race winners.
Steinhoff and last week’s feature race winner Larry Bolster, Jr. won the Bud Dash
heart races. Jake Arneson was the B-Feature winner.
Lester Stanfield backed up his win in the United Auto Supply Thunderstox Dash heat race
with a win in the feature. Stanfield narrowly edged Dwayne Anderson to the line. Tim
Steinhoff finished third, with Matt Inglett and Greg Lindvig rounding out the top five.
In Thunderstox heat race action, Adam Moore, Mary Schill, Greg Lindvig and Dwayne Anderson
took the wins. Andy Moore took the B-Feature checkered flag, holding off Jason Bolster in
a tight finish.
