Menard Captures Second La
Crosse Feature Win Of Season!

2004; West Salem, WI - Charlie Menard turned his good
starting spot into an even better finish in the NASCAR Kwik Trip Late Model Division
feature race Saturday night at the La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway. Steve Holzhausen
started on the outside pole of the Kwik Trip Late Model feature. It didn’t take him
long to show the rest of the competition how strong his car was going to be.
Menard, who started fourth, exercised patience through the first half of
the Check Advance 25, before moving to the outside of polesitter Rick Wateski on lap 18.
Wateski, who led the first 18 laps, tried to battle back on the inside, but Menard’s
car had the power to hold him off by a couple car lengths. With the win, Menard took back
the points lead, by 11 over his teammate Andy Burgess. Last weeks feature winner Steve
Holzhausen finished third, followed by Dan Steele and Blake Horstman.
Horstman was fast timer, with a speed of 97.059 MPH. Second fastest was Kevin Nuttleman,
followed by Burgess, Holzhausen and Mike Belling.
Winning Kwik Trip Late Model Heat Races were Tom McClintock and Andy Niles. Bud Dash races
winners were Tony Bagstad and Adam Degenhardt. Curt Eckelberg won the B-Feature, in a race
that featured a four car accident, which brought out the caution flag for several laps.
John Olson started from the pole in the Ray Hutson Chevrolet Sportsman Division feature
sponsored by Check Advance, and never looked back. Olson led all 15 laps, holding off
serious charges by Daniel Linnehan and Chris Skrede. Linnehan tried several lines looking
for a way to get past Olson, but ran out of laps as Olson held on for the win. Linnehan
finished second, Skrede third, with Randy Steinhoff and Larry Bolster, Jr. rounding out
the top five.
Jeff Winterfield held off Bill Miller in a tight finish for the win in the Sportsman
B-Feature. Todd Lockington, Ken Lewis and Rob Curran followed closely behind, in what was
a close five car battle all the way to the checkered flag. Dan Erdman and Nick Clements
won Sportsman qualifying races, while Jimmy Gilster and Larry Bolster, Jr. won the Bud
Dashes.
Rick Steinhoff was fast timer for the third consecutive week, clocking in at 22.615
seconds, 86.823 MPH. Randy Steinhoff, Jeff Baker, Chand Wehling and Jes Tenner rounded out
the top five qualifiers
Ed Senn started the night of racing winning the first heat race in the United Auto Supply
Thunderstox Division, then ended the night winning the Check Advance 15 Feature, leading
every lap. Adam Moore, who earlier also won his heat race, followed Senn across the finish
line by just a couple feet. Joey Johnson, Al Bartels and Shane Ulvestad took the next
three finishing positions.
In addition to Senn and Moore, Bartels and Justin Berg also won Thunderstox heat races.
Lester Stanfield continued his strong season, winning the B-Feature. Stanfield also has
two feature wins to his credit this season. Steve Scholze was the Bud Dash race winner.
