By David Morgan

June 18, 2005;  West Salem, WI -  Andy Burgess is certainly making at run at eight-time track champion and current points leader Kevin Nuttleman at the La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway. He has won three of the last four feature races, and moved into the lead of the Schreck Trucking 25 on lap ten, with a nifty outside pass of vetern Steve Holzhausen.
His teammate, and 2004 track champion, Charlie Menard had other ideas.

lose action was the story of the night as Adam Degenhardt (03) stays while Bill Niles (54) tries to fend off the nose of Tom McClintock's Car.

Menard followed by Holahzuen on lap 11,and ducked inside of Burgess four laps later, taking the lead for good, and earning his second feature win of the season. In all, Team Menard cars have won five of the nine features run this season.

It was a challenge getting the NASCAR Kwik Trip feature underway, as three cautions forced complete restarts. First, Adam Degenhardt spun in turn one, then Jim Hagel and Bill Niles collided on the frontstretch, sending Niles hard into the turn one wall.

The third iincident was the worst however, as frontrow drivers Tom McClintock and Chris Skrede touched in turn one, then again on the backstretch. The second bump sent Skrede around, and hard into the backstretch wall, and sent the field scrambling for a way through the wreckage. In all, 11 cars were involved, either with damage, or by ducking through the infield to avoid the incident.

Brent Kirchner took the top spot when the race finally went green, but the lead was short-lived, as Steve Holzhausen moved by on the inside on lap 3. Holzhausen led for seven laps, including a caution for a Jeff Baker spin, before Burgess took the lead, ducking inside coming out of turn four, and leading Menard through.

Burgess finished second, while points-leader Nuttleman made a charge through the field for third. Holzhausen was fourth, followed by Mike Belling, Todd Korish, Kirchner, Troy Goodenough, Degenhardt, and Ken Hutchens.

Menard also won a qualifying heat, while the Bud Dash wins went to Baker and Degenhardt. Qualifying for the late models and sportsman was not held because of Fan Photo Night.

The last thing Branden Berg wanted in the Ray Hutson Chevrolet feature was a yellow. he managed to keep his No. 35 car at the front of a packed field, but with them battling two wide behind them, a feature win was in sight. On lap six, Mike Albrecht, Jr. spun coming out of turn two, with the field splitting to avoid him, and the caution flew.

Jes Tenner chose the outside line on the restart, and gunned by Berg for the win, pulling out to as many as seven car-lengths at one point. The battle raged all race long behind him, with as many as five cars taking a turn in the runner-up spot. In the end, Larry Bolster, Jr claimed the second spot, followed by Dan Gilster, Jimmy Gilster and Dan Linnehan. Berg faded to sixth.

Jason Dummer won the B-Main, while qualifying heat wins went to Jeff Winterfield and Randy hass. Berg and John Olson claimed the wins in the twin Bud Dashes.

Kris Budhalpt did everything he could to take the United Auto Supply Thunderstox feature, leading the first seven laps, then being part of a three-way pass to retake the lead, but on the final lap, Charlie Vian managed to work by on the outside, and edged Budhalpt by a bumper for the win. Budhalpt was second, followed by Brad Warthan, who led laps 8 and 9, Chad Oehler and Rusty Winchell.

Adam Moore win the B-main, while Andy Barney took the checkers for the C-Main. the Bud Dash went to Steve Cleveland and heats were won by Al Bartels, Charlie Vian, Warthan, Henry Vian and Oehler.

This Saturday, Clason Pontiac-Buick-GMC presents all three divisions, plus the Daredevil Rollover challenge. The late models and sportsman begin qualifying at 5:05 p.m. The first Thunderstox race kicks 7:15 p.m.
