(West Salem, WI - April 15, 2006) - Saturday, the opening night at the La Crosse Fairground Speedway, was full of thrills, spills and lots of new faces in each of the three main divisons. If the opening night was a glimpse of what is to come this season, fans won’t need their whole seat, just the edge. Overall there are 10 rookie drivers this year all of which are thrilled to be racing this season in there new cars.

The Kwik Trip Late Models ran a good, clean race, turning in a green to checkered race. When it was over, nine-track champion Kevin Nuttleman did something he had never before done in his 27-year racing career – he won a Late Model feature on opening night. Nuttleman took the lead from Jon Barrett on lap 13, then cruised to his 96th career Late Model win at the Fairgrounds Speedway.

NASCAR touring series veteran Steve Carlson, a teammate of Nuttleman, finished second. Andy Burgess, who won five feature races a year ago when he finished second in the points standings, took third. Barrette took fourth, while Dan Steele rounded out the top five. It was Barrette’s best finish ever in his four-year Late Model career.

The Ray Hutson Chevrolet Sportsman feature winner was Dan Linnehan. followed by veteran Jimmy Gilster. They had a close race to the finish line, where Linnehan pulled away to take the win. There were a few cautions during the race but no serious accidents.

The United Auto Supply Thunderstox top two finishers were Mark Kruger and Jerry Aylsworth. The racing was intense in the 24-car field, but again, racing was clean with just one caution.
