(West Salem, WI - August 19, 2006)
- After a disappointing disqualification last week J. Herbst
came out Saturday night to win the Kwik Trip NASCAR Late Model
Budweiser 25 at LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway. Herbst, who started
3rd in the Feature Saturday night, managed to win an early battle
for 2nd place with points leader Kevin Nuttleman, then motored past
Todd Oliver during the race’s mid-stages to take the lead and go on
to win the race.
“I was mad at first, but our team turned it into
motivation,” said Herbst of last week’s disqualification. “I said,
let’s focus on what is at hand. Let’s go out and do what we know
how, and that’s win races.” concluded Herbst.
Herbst officially won his first feature win of the 2006 season.
Rounding out the top five were point standings runner-up Andy
Burgess, point leader Kevin Nuttleman, Mark Lamoreaux, and Charlie
Menard. The real race however was going on right behind Herbst,
between Nuttleman and Burgess for 2nd place. Burgess, who was
trailing Nuttleman by 19 points going into Saturday’s race finished
2nd right in front of Nuttleman (1st in the points chase) and in
front of Mark Lamoreaux who finished 4th in the race.
With just two weeks remaining, including the 100 lap
feature, Nuttleman leads Burgess by only 17 points, and Mark
Lamoreaux by 33 points.
John Olson won the Budwieser 15 Ray Hutson Chevrolet Sportsman
feature. Olson who avoided multiple incidents to move into the lead
fought of Randy Steinhoff to take the checkered flag. Randy
Steinhoff, Jerimy Wagner, Chad Rosendahl ,and Jamie Millis rounded
out the top five. Olson who is the division points leader stretched
his 2 point lead over Trent Boettcher to a 22 point lead after a mid
race caution put Boettcher to the back of the field were he would
finish 10th. Jimmy Gilster, third in points going into the night’s
events would finish 15th after going a lap down to the leaders.
Brad Warthan won the Budwieser 15 United Auto Supply Thunderstox
feature.
Bill Inglett, Matt Cleveland, Justin Berg and Greg Lindvig rounded
out the top five. Points leader Andy moore finished 14th leaving the
top five separated by only 18 points.
Only two weeks remain for the 2006 NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Racing
events. Next Saturday, Five Star Telecom presents the Kwik Trip
NASCAR Late Models, Ray Hutson Chevrolet Sportsmen, United Auto
Supply Thunderstox, and the Features Sports Bar & Grill Hornets.
Qualifying starts at 5:45, the Hornet Heat Races start at 6:30, and
the evening’s first race is at 7:15. September 2nd will conclude the
regular season, with a special 100 lap Late Model Feature,
