(West Salem, WI - August 26, 2006) - West Salem’s Danny Gilster won his first career Late Model Feature in the Five Star Telecom 25 Saturday night at the La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway. After starting on the pole, Gilster managed to keep every body behind him to claim his 1st Kwik Trip Late Model Feature win in just his third attempt. Gilster, driving a Team Menard Monte Carlo (Teammate to Andy Burgess), became the 2nd Rookie to win a feature race this year, after 2nd generation driver Skylar Holzhausen won his first just a couple of weeks ago.

The Kwik Trip NASCAR Late Model Points race caught the attention of everyone Saturday night. Kevin Nuttleman stretched his lead in the point standings to 24 after charging from 9th place to 4th place Saturday night. Meanwhile, right behind Nuttleman, Andy Burgess(2nd place in the points) and Mark Lamoreaux ( 3rd in the points) spun each other out battling for position mid-pack during the race’s mid-stages. The two of them would restart Lamoreaux17th and Burgess 18th. Burgess would only make it back to 9th place, but Lamoreaux, who had a fast car all night, weaved his way all the way back to fifth place. Lamoreaux finished right behind Nuttleman, and made up six points on Burgess. Lamoreaux has a ten point deficit to overtake Burgess for 2nd heading into the 100 lap feature next week, which will decide the 2006 Late Model Championship.

Larry Bolster Jr. took top honors in the Ray Hutson Chevrolet Sportsmen Five Star Telecom 15 Feature. Bolster, who also started on the pole, almost lost the lead several times, but the cautions fell his way, and he was able to bring the car home on top. A last minute charge by early season point leader Dan Linnehan was unsuccessful, as Linnehan had to settle for runnerup. Point leader John Olson took 3rd, Jerimy Wagner 4th, and Nick Clements would round out the top 5. The race included an eight car pileup on the frontstretch during the mid stages of the race. Several cars were involved, including point lead contenders Jimmy Gilster and Chand Wehling.

The points race for the Ray Hutson Chevrolet Sportsmen Division is also a very close battle. Seperated by only 36 points 1st to 3rd. Larry Bolster Jr. will move into 3rd in the points after the incident involving Gilster and Wehling. Trent Boettcher, now 2nd in the points, finshed 6th, making up 1 point on leader John Olson, who now holds a 21 point margin going into the last two weeks of racing.

Andy Barney won the United Auto Supply Thunderstox Five Star Telecom 15 lap feature Saturday night. Andy Moore, Josh Inglett, Adam Moore, and Charles Vian Jr. would finish out the top five. Going into the last two weeks of racing, the top five are only separated by 24 points, and is clearly the best championship battle at the track. Here are the top five in Thunderstox Points: 1. Andy Moore (1111) 2. Charles Vian Jr. (1100) 3. Adam Moore (1099) 4. Steve Bornitz (1091) 5. Ron Heller (1087).

The Final weekly event on the 2006 schedule is next Saturday night, September 2nd, as Dodge presents the Kwik Trip NASCAR Late Models, Ray Hutson Chevrolet Sportsmen, and United Auto Supply Thunderstox, plus the Late Models will have their longest race of the season, a 100 lap main event.
