(West Salem, WI - September 9, 2006) - It was a fantastic night of thrills and spills at La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway Saturday night for the annual Eve of Destruction. The evening started out with Thunderstox Qualifying, which is done only three times each season. Fast time for the night was posted by Sparta’s Andy Moore, with a time of 16.142 seconds, 5-hundreths of a second quicker than Dean Ashbacher. Next were the Features Sports Bar and Grill Hornets, which put on a great show with their Championship event.

Photo Highlights

The Hornets had regular heat and Feature races, plus a novelty - the Flag pole race. Heat race winners included Jerrod Loging, who was the winner of the first Hornet Feature, while Jared Heaney and Nate Towner won the second and third feature races. West Salem’s Heath Weissenberger, who has led the point standings for most of the season, won his first track championship, by just 10 points over Kevin Turner.

The United Auto Supply Thunderstox Novelty Races, such as the second over the line race – which featured cars six-wide at the finish – were as exciting as the Double Spin To Win Races. Shane Ulvestad and Jerry Alysworth were the winners of the second over the line races, while Charles Vian Jr. was crowned champion of the double win to spin race. At the conclusion of the evening’s Novelty events, Andy Moore edged brother Adam by one point to earn and add another Novelty Event Championship to his collection.

Stunts and Destruction also highlighted the evening, as Ben Allen and Andy Moore “kicked off” the stunts with the popular Double Steel Wall Crash. Other fun events included the Football Field Goal Contest – Hornet Cars punting a large inflatable into a set of goal posts, the Rollover Contest, a School Bus Race, and Spectacular Drags. Of course, the Devastator and Little Miss Dangerous Monster Trucks crushed over a dozen cars, the Green Mamba Jet Car melted an old Buick, and the Trailer Race of Destruction demolished over twenty pop-up and large campers, utility trailers and boats. The 2007 Eve of Destruction is tentatively planned for Saturday night, September 8th.
