(West Salem, WI – May 6, 2006) - The Checkered flag waved for Fall Creek’s Andy Burgess as he won his first feature of the 2006 season at the LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway. Pole sitter Bill Niles led the first two laps, however, Burgess was able to put the nose of his car in front by lap three.

Niles did not give up the position easily as he and Burgess battled for several laps before Burgess was finally able to pull into the lead. Burgess held a two car advantage until the first and only yellow flag was displayed on lap 11. The caution flag was waved as John Barrette, Steve Holzhausen, Mark Lamoreaux, tangled in the middle of turns 3 and 4. All three of the drivers were able to drive away from the incident and were sent to the rear of the grid. The rest of the race was without incident, however with five laps left to go, Shawn Pfaff put on a dramatic late race charge which cut Burgess’ lead in half, but was unable to coax his Dodge powered Charger around Burgess’ to take the top spot. “We had a lot of trouble with the car for qualifying and in the heat race. But with the work of the crew we were really good in the feature” stated Burgess. “I saw Shawn closing in on me…it would have been a lot closer if the race went a few more laps” added Burgess.

John Olson, of Sparta, Wis., brought his 1995 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Saturday night to a new track record in the Ray Hutson Sportsmen Division, with a 21.974 sec. lap. The previous track record was set at 22.014 seconds by Jes Tenner during April of 2005. Tenner, starting on the pole for the Christen Farm Nursery 15 feature event was involved in a seven car pile-up that happened at the dropping of the green flag. Most drivers were able to continue and finish the race. Veteran Larry Bolster Jr. of Sparta seemed well in control of the race with his 1966 Chevrolet Biscayne, until he pitted with four laps to go due to mechanical problems. That left the race in control of Aaron Hass of La Crosse, Wis. who edged Jim Gilster by half of a car length for his first career win.

Craig Chandler, of Black River Falls, Wis. won the Christen Farm Nursery 15 in the United Auto Supply Thunderstox division after Andy Barney of West Salem, Wis. was disqualified. The racers, after a few white-knuckle accidents that looked as though they would merit a yellow flag, managed to finish the race without a single caution.
