One More To Go: Nuttleman Gets His 99th Career Win
By: Ashley Iwanski

Saturday, July 21, 2007 (West Salem, WI) – One more win and Kevin Nuttleman (Bangor) will have won his 100th Kwik Trip NASCAR Late Model feature win of his career at La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway. Nuttleman won his 99th feature win on Saturday after a late caution took away his 10 car length lead over the rest of the field. With a not so great starting position Nuttleman came out of nowhere on lap 5 to shoot past three cars and take over the 2nd position. Five laps later he and Paul Proksch (Stoddard) were door to door in turns one and two when Nuttleman was finally able to push past Proksch on the outside to take the lead.

A caution on lap 22 forced the field back together for a three lap shoot-out. Although Nuttlman was able to stay in the lead, his car appeared to do better during long runs.

Proksch got a much needed 2nd place finish that should help him get closer to the top in the point standings. (He has yet to win a Late Model feature this season.) Steve Carlson (West Salem) tried to bump Proksch back to 3rd on the restart of the late caution. With 10 to go Carlson maneuvered his way to the 6th position then began to pass cars left and right as each lap went by. Within three laps he passed Todd Korish (Holmen) for 5th, J. Herbst (West Salem) for 4th, and Jeff Baker (Holmen) for 3rd. Carlson had a good restart with three to go, but failed to get around the two leaders and finished 3rd. Jeff Baker finished 4th and J. Herbst finished 5th.

Larry Bolster Jr. (Sparta) won the North Country Contractors Sportsmen division feature. Branden Berg (Melrose) lurked close behind Bolster waiting for the perfect chance to make his move. He had two opportunities when cautions closed the gaps in the field, but Berg couldn’t manage to get a good enough run on the leader. Berg finished 2nd. Earlier in the night the Sportsmen B-feature had the crowd on their feet when Rick Schermerhorn (Westby) squeezed himself between Tim Steinhoff (Cashton) and Al Bartels (Tomah) to race three wide through the corners. Schermerhorn was forced back, but on the last lap flew past Steinhoff to race three wide with Bartels and leader Adam Gallagher (Melrose). The top three were Gallagher, Schermerhorn and Bartles which meant that they advanced to the Sportsmen feature of the night.

The United Auto Supply Thunderstox feature was won by Matt Inglett (La Crosse). He started mid-pack but was able to move his way forward despite three wide racing and the cautions it brought out. About half way through the race a tire was pushed out into the middle of the track causing a small pile up and brought out a caution that forcing the field back together. On the restart Jamie Dummer (Galesville) moved up to race three wide through the corners. The leaders then got scrambled in with the rest of the field. In the end it was Inglett crossing the finish line first followed by Jason Bolster 2nd, Ray Hardy 3rd, Jamie Dummer 4th, and Cole Scholze 5th.

Saturday, July 28th the Features Sports Bar and Grill Hornets series will be at the track for more exciting fun along with the Late Models, Sportsmen, and Thunderstox divisions. Hornet heat races will begin at 6:30. On Saturday, August 4th regular racing will continue, it will also be the first Trailer Race of Destruction of the season.
