Rain Shortens Racing at LaCrosse Speedway

By: Ashley Iwanski

Saturday, June 2, 2007 (West Salem, WI) – Due to severe weather in the area, Saturday night’s racing events at La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway was cut short. The Features Sports Bar & Grill Hornets were run prior to qualifying, providing many action packed moments for the fans. Once racing began at 7:15, the United Auto Supply Thunderstox heats all were completed, but when the North Country Contractors Sportsmen division was about to start their heats, rain moved in and cancelled the remainder of what was turning out to be a great night of racing.

Qualifying for the Kwik Trip NASCAR Late Models and the North Country Contractors Sportsmen division were completed before the rain started. For the second week in a row Steve Carlson qualified in the first position for the NASCAR Late Models, followed by Andy Burgess (2nd), Kevin Nuttleman (3rd), Steve Holzhausen (4th), and Skylar Holzhausen (5th). Rookie Emily Sue Steck had issues with her car prior to qualifying. Her team loaded the car, took it to the shop, made the necessary repairs, and was able to fix the problem and get her back out in time to qualify. She qualified in the 8th position.

Dan Gilster qualified first in the North Country Contractors Sportsmen division with a time of 22.114 seconds. Branden Berg qualified 2nd this week; coming off of a fifth place qualifying position and a second place finish in the feature last Saturday. Jerimy Wagner qualified 3rd followed by Aaron Hass (4th), and Randy Humfeld (5th).

The United Auto Supply Thuderstox division was able to complete all three of their qualifying heats. The top six from each heat were to move on to the feature race. The first heat was won by Steve Bornitz, the second by Joey Johnson, and Jason Bolster won the third heat.

The Features Sports Bar and Grill Hornets were at the track Saturday night and got the most racing in of all of the divisions. All four of their heats were completed despite the fact that the third heat had to be restarted twice. The first time was for a car hitting a tire on the track and the second time was when Nate Towner’s car flipped over and skided partially down the backstretch. He got out of the car on his own and was ok.

Friday, June 8 the La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway will hold another exciting night of Street Drags. Street Drags are open to anyone age 16 years or older with a drivers license. Brackets include domestic cars, import cars, pickup trucks, motorcycles, muscle cars, pros and more. On Saturday June 9th, regular racing will continue, accompanied by the Tuner division.
