It’s in
the Bag: Kevin Nuttleman wins his 100th
Feature Race
at La Crosse Speedway

Saturday, May 17, 2008 (West Salem, WI) - On a race night threatened to be rained out, Kevin Nuttleman was able to block out any distractions and concentrate on one thing; his 100th Late Model feature win. But first he had to get past Ty Reedy, who was hoping for a win as a graduation present. Reedy graduated from the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse Saturday morning before coming to the track.

Nuttleman started mid-pack and was able to work his way through the field in no time at all. Meanwhile Mike Carlson (8th) and Jeff Baker (12th) were battling for the 3rd position. On lap five Carlson and Baker got together in the exit of turn three which resulted in a caution. For Nuttleman the caution came at a great time. He was able to get around Todd Oliver (6th) and Matthew Henderson (7th) to take over the 2nd position. Then Nuttleman confronted his greatest challenge of the night. Reedy had already gained a significant lead of the rest of the field. Inch by inch, lap by lap, Nuttleman slowly dug away at Reedy’s lead. With six laps to go Nuttleman passed Reedy on the outside in turn three. Even though Reedy kept Nuttleman in his sights, he couldn’t get the lead back. “Ty Reedy ran a great race. I didn’t know if I had anything for him or not,” Nuttleman said in a post race interview. “He gave me a good fight. Now I finally got that monkey off my back.”
In the same interview Nuttleman
said, “It’s been a long battle to
get to 100. I have a lot of people
who helped me along the way. Most of
al, I have to thank you, the fans,
for coming out every Saturday
night.”
John Olson walked away from the
track Saturday with a United Auto
Supply Sportsmen division win. Jes
Tenner was quick to pull into the
lead when the green flag waved, but
on lap 10 was involved in a race
that took out the top four leaders.
Tenner (12th), Jimmy Gilster (9th),
Randy Steinhoff (11th), and Troy
Maier (20th) got together in the
middle of turns three and four. The
crash left the four cars crumpled
together like tin foil and forced
officials to postpone the last six
laps in order to clean up. When they
restarted Rick Schermerhorn (13th)
was in the lead and Olson started
second. Olson was on the back bumper
of Schermerhorn for a few laps
before he was able to maneuver
around him and take the win.
Brad Warthan was able to capture a
win Saturday night despite the two
cautions that filled the first five
laps of the United Auto Supply
Thunderstox race. The first was
brought out by a spin in turn two
and the second was due to two cars
stuck together in the front stretch.
After safety crews pulled the cars
apart they were able to restart the
race. Warthan was able to survive
the three wide racing through the
turns and get into the lead to take
the checkered flag.
The Features Sports Bar and Grill
Hornets were also out Saturday night
for some exciting racing. Cars were
being pushed and shoved all over the
field throughout both feature races.
After multiple wrecks, cautions and
spins, Heath Weissenberger drove
away with the first feature win and
Wade Elliott took the second.
Saturday, May 24th racing will
continue with the Kwik Trip NASCAR
Late Models, the North Country
Contractors Sportsmen, the United
Auto Supply Thunderstox divisions,
and another appearance by the
Skidders. Also parents, next week is
the first Kid’s Box Car Race of the
season. On Saturday, May 31st there
will be more exciting racing from
the regular weekly racing divisions
along with an Outhouse Novelty Race.
June 7th La Crosse Speedway will

North series for some intense racing

Models double feature. For more
